He enlisted at Vernon Camp, British Columbia, 11th November 1915, stating his occupation as farm labourer, and his next of kin as Hannah Stirzaker, his mother, and William Stirzaker, his brother, both of Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was five feet eight inches in height, had a fair complexion, blue eyes and fair hair, and was a Baptist. He had three vaccination marks on his left arm.
